Upcoming electionsI watched CNN last night (8/26/06)at 8:OOpm about our president's use and abuse of power. In it, they show a speech of Mr. Bush decrying the terrorists for the 9/11 attacks. He says he wants justice for the 9/11 victims. What is his justice exactly? Is it killing more innocent people in Iraq for the sake of 9/11 victims. Iraq and Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11, although our president has tried to make the connection. So are U.S. soldiers killing people or being killled themselves in Iraq for justice's sake? Or is for oil's sake? Or for water's sake? Or is it for democracy sake? I have studied our country's history. Thomas Jefferson, in the Declaration of Independence said that "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Do you think our president and our vice-president have ever read this document? Do we as American want justice for all people or just for some? Is our president's statements that he wants justice for 9/11 victims really a play for more power? Our Supreme Court ruled in June of this year that our government could not try detainees in Guantanonamo, Cuba in a military court because it violated U.S. and international law. So what does our president do next in the name of justice? He urges Congress with a Republican majority to change the law. Now, our goverment does not have to abide by international law or by the Geneva Convention and it can legally terrozize the terrorists. I am a Christian. I remember the ten commandment and the golden rule "treat others like you would want to be treated" Have we treated the Iraqui people with justice? have we treated the terroists with justice? Can any American safely travel outside the US without fear of retalliation? What about the lives of our soldiers in the event they become a prisoners of war or are kidnapped? There has been a political statement around for centuries which is haunting in its judgment. "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Has our president crossed the line and become a absolute and corrupt leader? We, the people, need a change in our government come this November for the sake our Constitution, our citizens and our country. Please, please vote in the November elections for people who will ask tough questions of our president and not just rubber stamp Mr. Bush's plays for power.
